Make a difference to a special child's life

Every week The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys (EST) provides unique donkey-riding therapy to over 750 children with special needs and disabilities at purpose built Centres located around the country.
The children who attend the Centres have a wide range of disabilities; some have learning difficulties, others are physically disadvantaged or have behavioural problems, brain damage or sensory impairment.
Bringing children and donkeys together is very special. Even the most disturbed, agitated or withdrawn child is more relaxed when stroking or talking to the donkeys. A confidence shared with a donkey has no chance of being revealed as it can be with a human.
Learning new skills in a safe and caring environment means riding therapy is also fun. Setting simple, achievable goals at each riding session increases the motivation of the child, raising their confidence and self esteem that is so often lacking in many of the children who first visit the centres. The act of riding also improves balance and dexterity for many children.

  Your donation

EST relies entirely on donations to continue its worthwhile work, so any donation is gratefully received. Proceeds from your party will help towards the upkeep of the donkeys, maintain the centres and provide donkey-riding for the children who are brought to the Centres by their school or hospital.

Did you know?

Ever heard the saying 'donkeys' years'!?. Well the average lifespan is 27 years but many donkeys have been known to live into their 40s and even 50s!

Donkeys have calm and gentle natures, making them ideal for EST's work with children with special needs.

Donkey-riding therapy improves confidence and self-esteem, and can also help improve balance, strength, co-ordination and mobility.
