Serve dinner to Dragons
Komodo Dragons are the largest reptiles alive today – they grow to 3 metres long, and are indeed the likely source of Chinese dragon legends. Komodo National Park is the only place in the world where the dragons still live in the wild, and only 2500 remain in existence today. The Park is spread over four volcanic islands in Indonesia and is dedicated to protecting the dragons, as well as the many other rare species found in the area.
Dragons are at the top of the food chain and can eat all other animals that live on Komodo Island. Young dragons mainly eat insects and birds, but the larger ones prey on deer, buffalo, wild boar – even horses and monkeys. Unfortunately, the food supplies of the dragons are being threatened by the illegal hunting of species such as fruit bats and the Timor deer. Poachers also often start fires in the grasslands to flush out the animals, causing a lot of damage to this uniquely primordial environment.
